Greet Your Growers

Dearest Farm-ily,

It so lovely to feel the rain on the land once more, as the end of summer draws closer.

It is time for our Summer Greet Your Growers, seasonal networking meeting, which will be held on Monday 24th Feb, at the Bangalow Bowlo from 4:30-7pm, tickets here...or facebook event.

The drought and fires of the past seasons have had a huge impact on food production agriculture in Australia. We are beginning now to see price rises in the markets due to supply and demand issues. It takes time to re-build farms and production when we have these kind of events across a nation. This is why it is so important for communities to be considering local food sovereignty as an answer to having food security, moving the tide against decentralisation...reducing the need for logistics and freight, taking action against climate change through supporting organic, seasonal, and regenerative agriculture farmers and farmhers :) and reducing the need for freight, extended cold storage and logistics (which is up to 15% of total greenhouse emissions globally).

Food and flowers, produced locally, soil grown and organically is a much healthier alternative than produce that is grown conventionally (chemically) on large corporate farms and hydroponic setups. The produce that comes from these types of agriculture are low in nutrient density, have devastating effects on soils and our lands, and have poor shelf life, and little flavour. Contrast to our freshly picked , soil grown produce and flowers, harvested ripe, organically grown, high nutrient density, packed with flavour, long shelf life, natural local biome...building community health, and connection with the land by purchasing from local growers.

For those of you that know me, you know that I am a lover of solutions, and co-creating new ways forward....this is what is behind this idea of bringing together local growers, and local business to find ways that we can have more produce grown and sold locally in practical simple ways, by creating a space in which we can meet and connect seasonally.

It is our hope that we will create more awareness in our local community about sourcing produce locally, and make it easier for business to find and access us growers, and understand more of what is available seasonally and locally.

We are inviting chef's, florists, growers, retailers, distributors and any others that are interested in forwarding the interests of the local food movement in the Northern Rivers.

We will open the evening with our Summer Panel: Andrew (Farmer), Byron Grass Fed Beef, Graeme(Distributor) - Suncoast Fresh, Sacha(Chef) - One Green Acre.

Then, we will have the rest of the time available for casual networking, so you can have an opportunity to meet each other, and us, and make some new connections in the space.

So, if you feel to come and support this initiative, we would greatly appreciate your presence, and input...and we'd love to meet you!

From my heart to yours,
